Men's Ministry

The Men's Ministry at Oakwood Community Church exists to help men know Christ and grow in their faith. We do this through men's small group Bible studies, as well as occasional events, retreats and service projects. Below are some of the events and opporutnities currently taking place in our men's ministry.

Monday Morning Bible Study

A group of men meet Monday mornings at 10:00am at Oakwood Community Church. This provides an opportunity to connect with other men and grow in your faith. All men are welcome, so stop by and check it out.

The men are currently viewing and discussing the Faith Lessons - That the World May Know series by Ray Vander Laan. Faith Lessons are fascinating Bible studies with tour guide and historian Ray Vander Laan. Filmed in Israel and Turkey where Bible events actually took place, Ray weaves together historical, cultural, and geographical contexts to reveal keen insights into how people in biblical times understood God and Jesus' teaching .

Spring Retreat to Camp Barakel

In May of each year, a group of men from Oakwood go to Camp Barakel in the beautiful north woods of Michigan. It's a great time to be spiritually refreshed and connect with other guys. You can take time to rest, or you can keep active with a variety of optional activities, such as fishing, biking, archery, a shooting range, softball, the zipline, and more!

The Spring 2012 Men's Retreat is scheduled for May 18-20, 2012. Go to Camp Barakel's website to learn more and check back here for more details in the spring.

FREE Car Repair Clinics

Men's Ministry Car Repair ClinicA couple of times each year, men from Oakwood use their automotive skills to serve others by providing a free car clinic. Workers donate their time to help people in the church and community with needed car repairs. Those getting vehicles repaired must pay for any needed parts, but all labor is free. This has been a huge blessing to many families.

Annual Wild Game Dinner

For the past couple of years, Oakwood has hosted a Wild Game Dinner for men in the church and community. As with most men's events, there is always a ton of great food! Many men contribute game from the the hunting season for the meal, and the evening has included door prizes, hunting stories, and a special guest speaker. Stay tuned for info about the next Wild Game Dinner.
