Our Beliefs & Values

The Bible is the foundation of everything we believe and value at Oakwood because it is God's word to man. It guides us spiritually, instructs us intellectually, and it is alive and relevant for life today.

What We Believe

The following is a summary of our basic beliefs. Download our full statement of faith.

  1. We believe that there is but one true and living God. The Godhead consists of three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  2. We believe the Old and New Testaments, as originally written, to be inspired of God and are completely true and without error.
  3. We believe that salvation is a gift of God's grace and is extended to those who place their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  4. We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His death on the cross for our sins, His bodily resurrection from the dead, and the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  5. We believe the true Church is composed of believers in Christ. No color, creed, denomination or congregation has any preference in the sight of God. Christ is the Head and we, the Church, are members of His Body. The local church is a group of believers in Christ, upholding the Word of Christ in a world for whom He died.

Our Core Values

We value caring RELATIONSHIPS
We want to reflect God’s love to people in our church family and community. Therefore, we provide opportunities for people to connect with each other in ways that can help build lasting and loving friendships.

We value a GRACE ORIENTED ministry
We believe in a gracious God who forgives all who humbly call on him. Our relationship with him is based in love, mercy and forgiveness, not works. Therefore, we strive to practice love and forgiveness and always look for the best in others.

We value a MOBILIZED LAY MINISTRY
We believe for an individual to fully mature as a believer they must be involved in serving God and each other. As each person works in harmony with others, God is glorified, needs are met, and individuals are strengthened. Therefore, we structure our ministries with a dependence on volunteers.

We value the PREACHING AND TEACHING OF SCRIPTURE
We believe that God speaks to us through his holy word, the Bible. That its truths are relevant for today and it is the ultimate authority in matters of faith, life and doctrine. Therefore, we provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn from the Bible and we will use the Bible as our primary teaching tool.

We value a CULTURALLY RELAVANT church
We believe that God’s truth and love transcend culture and time and that the church must adapt its methods to make its message understood in each generation. Therefore, we address real life issues, make our teaching practical, and emphasize life application.

We value WORSHIP
We believe God alone is worthy of our praise and that every person should honor him in their life and in our worship services. Therefore, we enthusiastically pursue God honoring forms of worship that help each believer exalt Christ.

We value PRAYER
We believe in the importance of humbly communicating with God as a component of our spiritual growth, and that our loving father is concerned with our lives. Therefore, we encourage times of prayer in each ministry to offer praise, thanksgiving, and make requests to God.

We value the FAMILY
We believe that the family is the most effective means though which morals, values, and convictions are learned. Therefore, we seek to provide a place where marriages and families are strengthened and children, youth, and adults can grow in Christ
